Why does my cat rub its head against my computer?

A cat rubbing its head against you or your possessions is a compliment. Cats have scent glands all over their body – and their face – and use these glands to leave a scent mark.

KittenIt is a way to mark you or your computer as territory, but the scent language of cats is much more complicated than that. Cats use this behavior to bond, to show respect, soothe themselves, and communicate.

Even more interesting is, cats pick up scents through rubbing on objects. Rubbing against your computer is a way to pick up your scent, it’s a way to say hello.

Cats may rub their face against another cat’s too, but only if they know each other well. This is an ultimate sign of trust and friendship.
