How old is my cat in human years?

Cats have shorter lifespans than humans, but with proper care, many cats live into their 20s.  The oldest cat according to the record books became 38 years old.

  • Kittens 0-6 months of age – the kitten is growing and maturing quickly
  • Junior/teenager, 6 months to 2 years – the kitten reaches its full size, but still has a lot of energy and learns about the world
  • Prime, 3-6 years – the cat is mature, healthy, and active
  • Mature, 7-10 years – equivalent to humans around mid 40s to mid 50s
  • Senior, 11-14 years – equivalent to humans approximately 55 to 70s
  • Geriatric, 15 and older many cats in their teens don’t show any signs of being older, but it’s a good idea to get more frequent health check-ups

The table below gives a rough guide to a cat’s age in human years. Just like with humans there’s an individual component to aging.
